Pope Alexander escribió un epitafio para Sir Isaac Newton:

"Nature and nature's laws lay hid in night; God said 'Let Newton be' and all was light"
("La naturaleza y sus leyes yacían ocultas en la noche; dijo Dios 'que sea Newton' y todo se hizo luz")

A lo que Sir John Collings Squire agregó luego:

"It did not last, the devil showting: 'Let Einstein be' and the dilemma restored"
("Pero esto no duró, pues el diablo exclamó: 'que sea Einstein' y así el dilema restauró".
